The Geneva School of Boerne orchestra and classical guitar competed as a team in the TAPPS Division One Fine Arts Orchestra State competition April 20 in Austin and came home with the state title.
The competition was the second of a two-part contest that began with a Solo and Ensemble Meet in February at St. Mary’s University, where both groups earned scores of 1-Superior in their various solos and ensembles.
Points are awarded for level of difficulty and excellence. Many students were recognized for even higher honors by earning All-State status, the highest attainable score on the most difficult of the repertoire.
Geneva pulled ahead of the other schools at this first competition. At the second part of the competition, the Concert Meet, classical guitar earned a rating of 1-Superior, orchestra earned Sweepstakes by receiving a rating of 1-Superior on Concert and a 1-Superior on Sight Reading. The Chamber Orchestra earned a rating of 1–Superior as well.
Combined points from both parts of the competition left Geneva 315 points ahead of their nearest competitors, clinching their win for the state title.
