Cypress Christian wins in rematch against Geneva

Tuesday’s second-round playoff match between the Geneva School of Boerne and Cypress Christian baseball teams featured a rematch of last year’s TAPPS state semifinals game.

Cypress Christian won that contest and eventually went on to win state.

The two met again this year and the Warriors again ended the Geneva season after they won Tuesday’s contest, 1-0.

Last year’s state semifinals game was also decided by one run, 6-5.

Geneva concludes its 2024 season at 19-7 and will graduate three seniors, Grant Roberson, Shawn George and Cannon Menn.

George will continue his playing career at the University of Texas Permian Basin in Odessa.

Both teams had four hits in the game that was decided in the second inning. With two outs, Cypress Christian made its move.

A single by Brody Tucker and a walk to Ameron Sheikh put runners at first and second.

Both runners moved up a base after a wild pitch and then another wild pitch allowed Tucker to score from third for what turned out to be the game winner since that was the only run of the game.

Geneva had two runners on base in each of the first two innings and the Eagles put runners on base through the first four innings and in five of the seven frames but couldn’t score.

Grant Roberson, Colton Lutz, Gray Bruner and Brady Chandler accounted for the four Geneva hits.

Jake Roberson started on the hill and went 3.2 innings. He gave up 3 hits, 1 run, 3 walks and struck out 7 batters.

Shawn George finished out the game and tossed the final 2.1 frames. He yielded a hit, no runs, 2 walks and fanned 4.
