2ND ROUND PLAYOFFS
BOERNE VS NAVASOTA ALL GAMES IN DEL VALLE • Game 1, Thursday, 7 p.m.
• Games 2, Saturday, 1 p.m.
• Game 3, 30 minutes on Game 2 on Saturday if needed BHS never trailed in the game and took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning.
Hudson McNew started off the inning with a single and then Hutson Hendrix bunted and reached on a bad throw to first, which allowed McNew’s courtesy runner, Colton Shaver, to advance to third.
The next Boerne batter lined out and that brought up Jackson Grimes. Grimes popped up to left, which allowed Shaver to tag up and score to make it 1-0.
Kennedy turned a double play on the pop up and retired Hendrix at second for the third out, but not before Shaver scored.
It stayed there until the Rockets tied it in the bottom of the seventh A single and a triple put JFK on the board and there was only one out and the Rockets had the winning run at third a couple of times in the frame, but couldn’t bring him home.
The Hounds walked the next batter and then the Rockets hit into a fielder’s choice. BHS third baseman Ryan Hooper went home with the throw to get the runner at third tagged out after he broke for the plate on the hit.
Kennedy still had runners at second and third but Campbell Jackson struck out the next JFK batter to end the threat and send it to the eighth.
Miguel Picazo pitched well for Kennedy but left after the seventh inning after he threw 107 pitches and was three pitches away from the 110 limit.
The next Kennedy pitcher struggled and walked the first BHS batter, Walker Hill to start the eighth. Jace Preston bunted Hill to second and then McNew grounded out to move Hill to third with two outs.
The next two BHS batters – Hendrix and Hooper – were hit by pitches to load the bases. Grimes took a base-loaded walk to bring in Hill for what turned out to be the game-winning run.
JFK retired the side with a flyout to center for the next out but the Hounds were up 2-1.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Rockets used a hit batter and a single to put runners at first and second, but a fielder’s choice and ground out ended the game.
Jackson went all 8 innings for the Hounds and only threw 82 pitches. Jackson scattered 6 hits, gave up 1 earned run, 2 walks and struck out 6.
Hendrix had 2 of the team’s 3 hits and McNew had the other. Hill and Shaver scored 1 run each and Grimes had both RBIs.
Boerne 10, JFK 0

It was 0-0 through two innings but the Greyhounds jumped ahead with 6 runs in the bottom of the third. They scored 3 more in the fourth and added another in the fifth to kick in the mercy rule.
Boerne had 7 hits in the game and 6 were singles and 1 was a double from Jace Preston, who also added 2 singles and 4 RBI to his totals.
