Cats fall to Jim Ned as all three teams are in series
Three area baseball teams kicked off their 2024 playoffs Thursday night with Game 1.
Champion, Boerne High and Comfort were in action to open the first round of the postseason and all are involved in best-of-three series.
To see how those series turned out, be sure to check the Boerne Star and to look in the Wednesday online edition of the paper.
Champion
The Chargers went up 4-0 over Buda Hays early with a run in the first and 3 more in the third, but the Hawks tied it at 4-4 by the fifth inning after they scored 2 in the fourth and 2 in the fifth.
Champion answered with 4 runs in the sixth and went on to win the contest, 8-4, to take Game 1 Thursday in Boerne.
Jordan Ballin and Andrew Harrison scored 2 runs each for the Chargers team which continued their series Friday night at Hays.
A third game, if needed, takes place Saturday at Champion, 2 p.m.
Boerne High
The Greyhounds struggled in their Game 1 against Kennedy Thursday in S.A. and had to go extra innings before they prevailed.
Boerne edged the Rockets in eight innings, 2-1, and never trailed in the game.
A walk and two hit batters loaded the bases in the top of the eighth with two outs. The next batter, Jackson Grimes, walked to bring in Walker Hill from third for what turned out to be the winning run after JFK didn’t score in the bottom of the inning.
Game 2 was Friday in Boerne and a third game, if needed, is Saturday with a coin flip to decide which team hosts.
Comfort
Comfort dropped its opener Thursday night at Jim Ned, 9-2.
It was 5-2 at one point, but the Indians plated 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away.
Micah Nye blasted a 2-run homer in the sixth to account for the Bobcats only runs of the game.
Comfort hosted Game 2 Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. and needed to win that one to force a third game.
The Bobcats were scheduled to host Game 3 after the second game if needed in Comfort to close out the series by Friday.
