The second part of this basic components class, we will work on clasps, bails and connectors, using traditional jewelers’ tools and non-ferrous wire. Join beads with connecting components to fabricate a necklace or bracelet; form a bail to attach a focal piece and attach a formed clasp. May 14: Needle Felt Mandala. This primitive art form from Panama uses organic imagery and bold colors, attaching the shapes through the process of needle felting. Yarn, wool fiber and Kunin felt are fused together to produce a stunning showpiece. May 21: Powder Coating: The art of applying a powdered pigment and curing with a heat source. The class will include fabricating a metal blank from copper, the process of applying powder coat and adding jewelry findings to construct a finished piece.
