Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District proudly unveiled its newly renovated weight room, made possible through a collaborative effort involving the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA), Uvalde CISD athletic administration, and generous funding from philanthropist Fin Ewing.
The ceremony on April 15 celebrated the culmination of the Iron Sharpens Iron initiative, a transformative project aimed at providing cutting-edge athletic facilities for students across Texas.
The ceremony, held at Uvalde High School, featured distinguished guests, including executives from THSCA, Uvalde CISD athletic administration, project sponsors, and Fin Ewing, whose visionary support made the project a reality.
“In a town this size, the athletic program is the heart and soul of the school system and the community. For our students to have a state-of-the-art weight room to work out in, it is an amazing boost to their confidence and their energy for our athletic program. It is an amazing gift, and we are very appreciative of Mr. Ewing and his donation.” said UCISD Superintendent, Ashley Chohlis.
The Iron Sharpens Iron initiative, spearheaded by the THSCA, is dedicated to enhancing athletic programs by providing high-quality weight rooms designed to serve all students and athletes. The project at Uvalde CISD exemplifies the impact of public-private partnerships in advancing educational opportunities for young athletes.
“We are immensely grateful to Fin Ewing for his incredible generosity in making this state-of-the-art weight room a reality for Uvalde High School student-athletes,” said THSCA Executive Director Joe Martin. “The Iron Sharpens Iron project is one way in which our Education Foundation furthers our mission of ‘Helping Coaches Help Kids,’ and we are thrilled that the coaches and student-athletes will benefit from the vision of our partners.”
Last year Cedar Hill High School received the weight room renovation and this year it was Uvalde.
