Follow the story of four World War II heroes

Bestselling author Alex Kershaw’s most recent title is “Against All Odds: A True Story of Ultimate Courage and Survival in World War II.”

Bestselling author Alex Kershaw’s most recent title is “Against All Odds: A True Story of Ultimate Courage and Survival in World War II.”

The book begins in North Africa and follows four men from one unit through Italy, France and Germany. The action is fast-paced and more harrowing because the book is military history and not a work of fiction. I know while reading it the good guys win in the end, but I’m not sure what our heroes will face getting there, and how many friends they will lose.

One of the heroes this book covers is a 138-pound very young Texan named Audie Murphy. The other three men featured in the book are Maurice “Footsie” Britt, Michael Daly and Keith Ware. All four men won the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Kershaw participated in our online Boerne Book & Arts Festival in 2020. He was featured on a panel discussion titled “Heroes of World War II,” which also included authors Tammie Jo Shults and James Fenelon. The recording of that program is available to watch on our Boerne Book & Arts Festival YouTube channel.

We are pleased to have Kershaw participate in another online program with us on Tuesday, April 19, at 10:30 am. Kershaw will discuss “Against All Odds” and hopefully have time to answer a few questions. Anyone interested in joining this free program can contact me at the library through my e-mail: [email protected] for the Zoom registration link.

Kershaw is a journalist and author of many books on World War II history. He is a graduate of Oxford University and has lived in the United States since 1994.
