The Comfort girls basketball team opened District 25-3A action Friday at Blanco and faced a hot-shooting team.
Blanco just didn’t miss much, especially from long range, and hit 11 3-pointers to defeat the Deer, 54-36.
Comfort starts district play at 0-1 and slips to 10-13 overall. The Deer host Lago Vista Tuesday.
Blanco was up 14-11 at the end of one and then the Lady Panthers outscored the Deer in the second, 14-8, for the 28-19 halftime lead.
Banco tallied 13 in the third and fourth quarters but the Deer couldn’t keep up and were held to single digits in the final two stanzas, with 9 and 8 points.
Daniela Hernandez led the Deer in scoring with 9 points, Ashlynn Rodriguez and Kallie Doss both netted 7, Erin Alt added 5, Meghan Davis had 4, while Katie Haffner and Denise Ceja both chipped in with 2 as no Comfort player reached double figures.
Davis grabbed 7 rebounds, Bailey Feldman snagged 6 boards, Ceja came up with 4 steals and Rodriguez had an assist.
