WACO — Geneva School of Boerne Rhetoric School art students competed April 9-10 in Waco at the TAPPS 4A State Art Contest and finished as the runner up.
In addition to works submitted, six Geneva art students attended and participated in two live drawing events. Overall, the team earned the honor of state runner-up and students earned individual recognition as well.
Sophomore Joshua Patteson earned second place in pottery and fourth in black and white photography. Senior Alex Havranek placed second in painting and fourth in seek and sketch-black and white, while senior Hailey Kirchner placed third.
Kirchner also placed third in the seek and sketch-color category and fourth place in communication design.
Sophomore Court Hess placed second in color photography and junior Jake Roberson placed fourth. All Geneva student TAPPS Art Contest entries will be displayed this month at the school’s annual benefit program which showcases student work and all they are learning.
“It is always such a joy to see how well our Geneva students’ work shows in comparison to other comparable schools in the state and our six Geneva students who participated in the drawing competitions did beautiful work under difficult circumstances,” advanced art instructor Cathy Lester said. Lester will retire after this school year, having taught at Geneva for 16 years and led her students in four art state championships and multiple rodeo art scholarships.
