Guerra qualifies for state golf tourney, Lady Chargers finish fifth at regionals

Boerne Champion’s Phoenix Guerra will advance to this year’s 5A state golf tournament after Guerra earned a spot with his performance at the Region IV-5A tournament held last week at the Champion Lakes Golf Course in McAllen.

Guerra was the only member of the Champion boys golf team at regionals and grabbed one of three individual state spots up for grabs.

The top three teams, and top three individuals not on an advancing team, are headed to this year’s state tourney scheduled for April 29-30 at the Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown.

Guerra posted scores of 79 and 70 to finish with a 149 and finished fourth individually. The top three individual finishers were from advancing teams Smithson Valley and McAllen Memorial, while Mission Sharyland was the third team to advance.

Varsity Girls

The Lady Chargers finished fifth overall with a two-day score of 642 after rounds of 325 and 317.

Alamo Heights (529), Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial (616) and Kerrville Tivy (627) are the three teams advancing to state.

Camryn Leslie led the Char- gers with a 158 after rounds of 78 and 80, Carolina Franz was one stroke back at 159 after rounds of 81 and 78, Cate Johnson carded a 160 and shot consecutive rounds of 80, Brooke Castillon finished with a 165 with rounds of 86 and 79 and Sage Langenberg scored a 169 with rounds of 86 and 83.
