THE BOOKWORM

Library graphic novel collection

Did you know that the youth department has a great collection of graphic novels for young readers? Despite the stigma often surrounding the format, graphic novels are a perfect reading choice for all ages, but especially young readers.

Studies show that graphic novels often contain bigger, more complex vocabulary than classic forms of reading. Graphic novels can more easily contain this level of language because of the inclusion of pictures in the stories.

Children can still feel confident they understand the story as they learn new words and view the images. This also makes graphic novels a great choice for readers with reading disabilities or who simply struggle to get into lengthy chapter books.

Here are a few graphic novel recommendations available at the library that are perfect for all young readers: THE MAGIC TREE

House Graphic Novels. You’ve probably heard of Magic Treehouse, but did you know the beloved series is currently being adapted into a graphic novel series? With six books available to check out, they contain all the fun and adventures as the originals.

CUPCAKE DIARIES BY Coco Simon. Perfect for fans of The Babysitters Club, this four-book series follows a group of middle school girls as they make friends and create their own unique club.

STITCH! BY YUMI Tsukirino. This manga follows the funny, little creature Stitch from Lilo and Stitch as he goes on a new adventure to Japan and meets a girl named Yuna who knows karate.

Come by the library to check out our fabulous collection of graphic novels today or reserve one on our website or MyLIBRO app.
