Last chance to view student art show posted at library

CELEBRATING THE ARTS

If you have not yet viewed the installation of our Boerne ISD Fine Arts Spring Show, this is your last chance to be amazed at the quality and variety of mediums being taught by the Fine Arts department teachers.

The exhibit, including works from all grades, elementary through high school, is installed on both floors of the Patrick Heath Public Library, 451 N. Main St., and ends 7 p.m. Monday.

We want to congratulate all students who participated in this year’s event. The installation is always a pleasure to see displayed among the bookshelves, with surprises around every corner.

It is obvious to the viewer that the fine arts team understands that the arts encourage creativity, innovation, and self-confidence — essential skills necessary for the 21st century workforce.

The following are results of judging and comments from the judges for your added reference.

Kanon McGee, ninth grade, Champion High School: first place and “Best in High School” exhibit, “Mother and Child,” pencil. “A lovely expression between mother and child; perfect composition and shading in background and torn edges to paper complete the piece beautifully.”

Azlie Webster, 10th grade, Champion: second place, “Girl with sunglasses and butterflies,” collage/painting. “A well-executed ambitious project.”

Jace Tipton, 10th grade, Champion, third place, “Cowboy with Horse, saddle and dog,” black-and-white photography. “Amazing composition, nostalgic quality similar to that created in CowboyArtists ofAmerica paintings and sculptures. Reminds the viewer of close bond between man and animal companions.”

Honorable mentions for consistency in body of work presented: Olivia Norwood, 12th grade, Boerne High School; Piper Pruitt, 11th grade, Champion; and Caroline Cabral, 12th grade, Champion.

Gabriella Bunker, eighth grade, Boerne Middle School North, first place and “Best in Middle School” exhibit, “Glass bottle painting.,” acrylics. “Using elements of line, shape, color, value, texture and perspective in a way that draws the ‘viewer’s eyes’ all around the painting, the added reflection to the glass containers is incredible.”

Carrie Carlile, eighth grade, Boerne Middle School North, second place, “Blue mug,” ceramics. “Color and character of sea creatures add movement and unity to the piece.”

Centhia Guillen, seventh grade, Voss Middle School, third place, “High top tennis shoe,” pencil. “Using elements of line, shape and value add emphasis to the shoe; mushroom design adds interest.”

Honorable mentions: Rylee Rucker, seventh grade, Boerne Middle School North; Olivia Miller, sixth grade, Boerne Middle School North; Carrie Carlile, eighth grade, Boerne Middle School North; and Ansley Schiller, seventh grade, Voss Middle School.

The Visual Arts Scholastic Event, VASE, is an annual art competition for high school students that recognizes exceptional achievement in visual arts. Keep fingers crossed for several of our BISD fine arts students participating in the VASE event this weekend.

The TexasArt Education hosts the event, which has four divisions based on skill level and number of credits. VASE began its 31st season in January of this year, with 29 regional high school events and 2,000 entries advancing to the State VASE event at San Marcos High School.

Artworks receiving an Exemplary Rating are awarded a State VASE medallion.
