Greyhounds one win away from district baseball title

With Friday’s 9-1 victory at Davenport Friday, the Boerne baseball team has pulled within one victory of claiming this year’s district title.

The Greyhounds are 10-3 in district with two games left, both against Wimberley and need to win one of the two to wrap up the 2024 crown.

BHS is 20-8 overall and visited the Texans Tuesday and hosts the Texans Friday.

Last Friday’s win also gave the Hounds the season series over the Wolves at 2-1 after Davenport defeated BHS last Tuesday via the run rule.

Boerne finished strong in last Friday’s game and almost pulled off the run-rule win.

The Hounds were winning 2-0 at the end of four innings. Boerne plated 3 more runs in the fifth to open up a 5-0 advantage and finished with another run in the sixth and 3 more in the seventh.

Davenport scored its only run of the game in the sixth.

BHS finished with 14 hits in the game, took 8 walks and took advantage of 5 Wolves errors.

It was another solid performance from pitcher Jackson Grimes, who struck out 16 in his previous outing. Grimes went 6.1 innings on Friday, scattered 4 hits, gave up 1 run, walked 4 and fanned 6.

As far as Boerne’s 14 hits, Dylan Perez hit 2 singles, walked and scored a run, Walker Hill knocked out 2 singles and scored 2 runs, Jace Preston hit 2 singles and picked up an RBI, Hudson McNew had the only extra base hit of the game with a double to go with a single and he drove in 2 runs, while Grant Tamplet hit 2 singles, took a walk, pushed in a run and scored a run.

Hutson Hendrix singled, took 2 walks and scored once, Ryan Hooper singled and scored, Jackson Grimes singled and took 2 walks, while Reese House singled, walked once and scored a run.
