Warriors pull away from Cats with big fifth inning

The Comfort baseball team kept it close with Ingram and it was tied at 2-2 through four innings but the Warriors pulled away with a 10-run fifth and went on to win 12-2.

Comfort drops to 15-7 overall and is 4-4 in district and is tied for third with Llano. The Cats are off Friday and close out the regular season next week where they visit Brady Monday and host Llano Friday.

After Ingram scored 2 runs in the top of the third, the Cats matched those 2 runs in the bottom of the fourth.

A double by Brooks Davis and a single from Mason Matt put runners at second and third. Micah Nye brought in Davis with a sac fly and then Matt also scored on the throw and it was 2-2.

It stayed that way until the fifth inning. Ingram’s first four batters reached, with a single and three doubles. Three errors, three walks and another single helped the Warriors score its 10 runs and take a 12-2 lead before the Bobcats could get out of the inning.

Comfort had to score at least one in the bottom of the frame to keep the game going and they did put a runner on but couldn’t get him home and the mercy rule kicked in.

The Cats had 5 hits in the game, including the double by Davis, who also scored, Matt singled and scored, Nye singled and brought in 2 runs, while Luke Bohnert and Zach Jones both singled.

Jones went 4.1 innings on the hill and gave up 7 earned runs, 1 walk and struck out 6, while Mason Matter closed out the game and yielded 2 hits and sat down 1.
