After finishing second to Wagner at the district track and field meet, the Champion boys tied the Thunderbirds at the Area meet last week held at New Braunfels Canyon.
The Champion girls finished in fifth place at the District 25/26 5A Area meet.
The top four finishers in each event advance to regionals set for this weekend at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio.
RESULTS Varsity Boys
The Chargers and Wagner both scored 93 points to tie for first.
Champion did well in midto- long distance running events after Caleb Dehart won the 800 in a time of 1:59 and Luis Tovar was 2nd at 2:00.
Tovar earned more points after he came in 3rd in the 1600 when he clocked in at 4:34 and teammate Charlie Houck finished 5th with a 4:38.
Houck picked up more points in the 3200 after he posted a 9:46 for 2nd, while Luke Grametbauer was 7th in the race at 10:23.
Champion’s 4x100 of Cal Isley, Zach Garcia, Hayden Brace and Jamarri Bowie finished 5th with a time of 42.93, while the 4x200 of Landon Heckman, Michael O’Hare, Brace and Bowie teamed up for 4th place after turning in a 1:29, while the 4x400 of Caleb Dehart, Tovar, Bowie and Brace clocked in at 3:26 for 3rd place.
Hayden Brace won the triple jump with a mark of 45-10 and went 21-01 in the long jump for 7th, Brooks Jones placed 2nd in the pole vault after he cleared 13-6 and Landon Kolacny was 6th at 13-0.
Riley Wampler finished second in the discus with a toss of 157-6 and also came in 2nd in the shot put with a mark of 51-06.25.
The Chargers picked up points in the wheelchair events after Ephraim Tonn-Bourg won the 100 and 400 events.
Varsity Girls
Champion finished with 50 points for fifth, one place behind fourth-place Liberty Hill, which scored 51 points in the field where 14 teams scored at least a point.
Elizabeth Leachman won two of her races and finished 2nd in the other after she was 2nd in the 800 in a time of 2:12.72, just behind the winner from Cedar Park, Isabel Conde De Frankenberg, who came in at 2:12.01.
Leachman won the 1600 in a time of 4:45 and Kynley Albright was 4th at 5:24.
Leachman posted a 10:08 to win the 3200, Albright was 2nd at 11:46 and Luciana Zazueta Ibarra came in 6th at 12:38.
Champion’s 4x100 of Holly Winkenhower, Kinsley Graff, Juliana Syroney and Madison Meinke finished 6th with a time of 49.59, while in field events, Peyton Smith cleared 10-0 for third in the pole vault and Lorena Barreiro-Bidot was 6th in the discus with a toss of 96-07.
