BHS boys track team wins Area meet, Hounds sending several to regionals

One week after winning the district meet, the Boerne High boys turned around and captured first place again, this time in the 4A 26/27 Area meet at New Braunfels Canyon, while the girls were 9th.

The BHS boys and girls track teams won a total of nine events at Area, set two school records and advanced another nine events to regionals.

The top four finishers at Area head to regionals set for this weekend in Kingsville at Texas A&M.

Varsity Boys

The Boerne boys ran away with the Area title after they scored 152 points to beat second-place Wimberley by 30 points.

William Freeman won the 100 dash in a time of 10.70, Charlie Stahl took 1st in the 200 after clocking in at 21.72 and Woody Goen finished 1st in the 400 by finishing the race in 50.59.

Stahl’s time in the 200 set a new school record.

Barrett Crofut and Aaron Garcia went 1-2 in the 1600 after Crofut captured 1st in 4:44.10 and Aaron Garcia was 2nd at 4:44.22, while Crofut also took 2nd in the 800 after posting a 2.03.

Carsten Bain and Garcia also placed 1st and 2nd in the 3200 after Bain posted a 9:57 and Garcia was 2nd with a 9:58.

McCoy Bruce made it a clean sweep in hurdle events after he won the 110 hurdles in 15.37 and captured 1st in the 300 in a time of 40.31.

Boerne’s 4x100 of Woody Goen, Michael Igbo, William Freeman and Charlie Stahl set a new school record with their time of 42.13 after they took 1st place.

Boerne’s 4x200, consisting of Wyatt Watts, Charlie Stahl, Will Freeman and Michael Igbo, placed 2nd in a time of 1:31.

Goen was 6th in the long jump with a mark of 20-02.75, Keagan Fischer came in 2nd in the discus with a throw of 134-06 and Will Traylor was 6th in the discus with a mark of 123-08.

Logan Schram placed 2nd in the shot put with a toss of 47-08 and Fischer was 4th with a mark of 44-01 to round out the scoring.

Varsity Girls

The Lady Hounds scored 36 points for 9th but also had to scratch in a few events after the BHS girls soccer team was playing at the state tournament on the same day.

Kendall Lemm won the high jump after she cleared 5-8 to earn 10 team points, Averi Aaron placed 4th in the discus with a toss of 108-04 and Ella Schram was one spot back in 5th with a mark of 105-08, while Schram was also 5th in the shot put with a throw of 32-02.50.

Savannah Seibert came in 4th in the long jump after she went 17-0. Siebert placed 3rd in the 400 after clocking in at 1:01, Eleanor Davis finished 5th in the 1600 with a time of 5:29 and Davis was also 5th in the 3200 after posting a 12:00, while Prisca Igbo took 4th in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.56.
