Wolves explode for 12 runs in one frame to beat BHS

Tuesday’s baseball game between Boerne and Davenport was pretty tight through the first four innings but all that changed in the fifth when the game got away from the Greyhounds.

The Wolves exploded for 12 runs in the top of the inning after sending 15 batters to the plate, and when Boerne couldn’t score in the bottom of the frame, the game ended there with Davenport picking up a 12-0 victory in five innings.

The Hounds slip to 19-8 overall and 9-3 in district. They visited Davenport Friday to close out their series with the Wolves.

BHS closes out the regular season with a couple of games against Wimberley this coming week. They visit the Texans Tuesday and are home Friday.

Tuesday’s game turned in the top of the fifth but the Greyhounds did retire the first batter in the inning with a strikeout. However, the Wolves put on the next five batters before BHS could record the second out but by then it was 4-0.

With two outs, Davenport put the next seven batters on before the Hounds could get out of the inning. The Wolves last hit of the frame came via a home run to right field to make it 12-0.

BHS did put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh and needed 3 runs to extend the game but were kept off the board for the first time this season. Tuesday’s setback also marked the first time they were run ruled in a game.

Boerne had 4 hits in the game, singles from Walker Hill, Hutson Hendrix, Ryan Hooper and Reese House.

Campbell Jackson went 4.1 innings on the bump and gave up 7 hits, 5 runs and struck out 5, while Tanner Tuschinski and Eli Srp both pitched in the game and yielded 2 hits apiece.
