Boerne High visited Wimberley Tuesday with third place on the line in the District 27-4A softball standings.
It was the regular-season finale for both teams and it looked like Boerne was going to snag third place to close out district play after they went up 9-0 by the third inning, but the Lady Hounds couldn’t hold the lead and the Lady Texans went on to win in eight innings, 14-13.
Boerne slips to 4-6 in district and dropped its last four games in 27-4A. They are 15-17-1 overall and will play Cuero in the first round of the 4A playoffs that start this coming week.

Tuesday’s game resulted in 27 combined runs and 35 hits as at least one of the teams scored in every inning.
BHS plated 2 in the first, 5 in the second and 2 in the third for the 9-0 lead but couldn’t maintain it.
The Texans slowly climbed back into it with 2 runs in the fourth, 3 in the fifth and another 2 in the sixth.
After not scoring in the fourth, Boerne plated single runs in the fifth and sixth and the Lady Hounds were leading 11-7 after six.
BHS added to its lead in the top of the seventh and looked to be in good shape with a 13-7 advantage going into the bottom of the frame, but Wimberley responded with 6 runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie it up at 13-13.
Once in the seventh, Boerne put two runners on with one out, but couldn’t manufacture a run, so it went to the bottom of the inning.
With two outs, the Texans put a runner on with a walk. A wild pitch moved the runner to second, where she later scored on a single for the walk-off win.
Boerne had 18 hits, all singles except a Riley Partin double. Partin also hit 2 singles, picked up 3 RBI and scored once.
Taylor Wilson, Ava Renteria, Partin and Lizzy Thornton all collected 3 runs. Wilson scored twice and drove in a run, Renteria plated 3 runs, walked twice and picked up 3 RBI, while Thornton also collected 3 RBI.
Cerissa Nasis hit 2 singles and scored a run, Payton Dyal knocked out 2 singles and scored twice and Brooklynn Thomason singled and scored 2 runs.
Maddie Vasquez singled and scored, Breanna Krause walked and scored and Ryleigh Hastings picked up an RBI.
Jesseanna Aguirre went the distance in the circle and tossed all 7.2 innings of the game. She walked 4 and struck out 2.
