Boerne ISD hires two head varsity coaches, looking for Champion head boys soccer coach

At the recent Boerne ISD school board meeting, the district announced two new varsity coaching hires, one at each high school, while the search is on for another head coach at Champion.

Boerne alum Brandon Cheves was hired as the new swim/water polo coach at BHS.

The Greyhounds will start a water polo program that will compete next fall, something that had only existed at Champion.

Since the Greyhounds and Chargers will be playing each other in water polo, they needed separate head coaches.

Cheves will also lead the BHS swim program that was formerly coached by Scott Slay, who is staying at Champion to lead their water polo/swim program.

Cheves is leaving Steele to return to his alma mater.

Sheila West was hired as the new Champion cross country/track coach. She leaves New Braunfels Canyon and is taking over for Kevin Brown, who is currently serving as the Chargers interim track coach after the retirement of Jonathan Tate at the end of the last school semester.

The search is also on for a new boys soccer coach at Champion after current coach Clifton Tierney accepted a job at Brandeis as the boys head coach there.
