THE BOOKWORM
James R. Dennis is a man wearing several hats. He’s a Dominican friar, mystery novelist (under the name Miles Arceneaux), lawyer and poet. He also gets “volunteered” to work whenever he shows up at the Boerne Book Festival.
Dennis will be one of the featured poets for a special program we are holding during National Poetry Month at 2 p.m. April 20. The program will be online through Zoom.
The latest poetry book by Dennis is “Songs of Seven Days,” through New Beginnings Publishing and it’s really a work of art, including poetry along with pen and ink drawings.
His previous title, “Listening Devices,” is very similar in the manner of publication, with beautiful poems and illustrations. “Listening Devices” was published by Stephen F. Austin State University Press.
Alicia Z. Galván is a poet and author that has been in the San Antonio area for many years. She’s written several books including “Eclipse,” and “Enigma,” which are bilingual with the English and Spanish on opposing pages.
Within these books, her poetry is accompanied by artwork contributed by her son, Oscar Galván. This poet and author will also be included in our Zoom poetry session. d. ellis phelps is an amazing artist and has written several works of poetry. She has helped the library with the publication of two anthologies of poetry. She also runs writing workshops for us at The Center at Kronkosky Place as part of the library’s Silver Library Initiative. phelps will also be reading from her poetry at our program on April 20.
If you are interested in listening to the poets read from their works, e-mail me for the Zoom link: [email protected]. This program will be recorded if you happen to miss the live readings.
In addition to the above readings, we have interactive “Poet-trees” set up outside The Hub and in the children’s department, where kids and teens can place their own creative works. Stop in the library sometime before the end of April to see these.
