Road repair on Fair Oaks Ranch ballot

Voters in Fair Oaks Ranch will find two items on the ballot when they go to early voting, which runs April 22-30, and on Election Day May 4, both having to do with their ability to get around town.

The first item up for vote is the Street Maintenance Sales Tax Reauthorization, which allows for funding of regular upkeep of city roads. The sales tax has been in existence since 2008 and must be renewed every four years by state law.

The ballot asks, “Shall the City Council of the city of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, be reauthorized to continue a local sales and use tax in the city of Fair Oaks Ranch at the rate of one-fourth of 1% to provide revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets?”

The second issue is what is called a “general obligation bond,” which is the result of months of planning on the city’s behalf. This money, as determined by council, will address several of the city’s more used, and worn, thoroughfares.

Several of these roads have crack- ing and pavement issues, all requiring work from the base up; a new roadway.

The bond asks approval for $16 million to address reconstruction of Dietz Elkhorn Road, Battle Intense, Rolling Acres Trail and Ammann Road.

The ballot Fair Oaks Ranch residents will see in the voting booth reads: “Shall the City Council of the city of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas, be authorized to issue and sell one or more series of general obligation bonds of the city in the aggregate principal amount of not more than $16 million for the purpose of: Designing, demolishing, constructing, renovating, improving, reconstructing, restructuring and extending streets and thoroughfares and related land and right-of-way sidewalks, streetscapes, collectors, drainage, landscape, signage, acquiring lands and rights of way necessary thereto or incidental therewith, to wit: Dietz Elkhorn, Battle Intense, Rolling Acres Trail and Ammann Road.”
