Boerne falls to Fred, plays Wimberley for third

After a 10-1 loss to Fredericksburg last Friday at home for Senior/Parent Night, nothing really changed for the Boerne High softball team.

Boerne and Wimberley, a 12-0 loser to Davenport last Friday, were still tied for third place in the district going into Tuesday’s regular- season finale.

Both the Lady Greyhounds and Lady Texans are tied for third at 4-5 and Tuesday’s winner in Wimberley takes third place and the loser gets the final spot up for grabs in 27-4A.

Fredericksburg has won the district and was 9-0 going into Tuesday, Davenport is second at 7-2, followed by Boerne and Wimberley, both at 4-5. Canyon Lake and Bandera will sit out the postseason.

Boerne is 15-16-1 overall heading into Tuesday.

The Billies started strong last Friday and scored 2 runs in the top of the first and added another run in the third for the 3-0 lead.

Boerne scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the third after Taylor Wilson singled with one out. Boerne’s lone senior moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a bunt single by Cerissa Nasis and it was 3-1.

After neither team scored in the fourth, the Billies closed out Fridays’ contest with three strong innings. Fred plated 2 runs in the fifth, 4 in the sixth and added another in the seventh to get its 10 runs.

BHS finished with 5 hits, including 2 singles from Wilson, who scored their only run. Nasis singled and picked up an RBI, while Ava Renteria and Lizzy Thornton both doubled.

Jesseanna Aguirre went all 7 innings in the circle for the Lady Hounds and gave up 12 hits, only 3 earned runs, 2 walks and struck out 3.

Fred pitcher Ava Stuewe struck out 12 Boerne batters.
