Geneva School of Boerne and Bandera were engaged in a high-scoring baseball game Tuesday afternoon that featured 19 combined runs and 18 combined hits.
The good news for the Eagles is that they prevailed over the Bulldogs, 13-6. The Eagles tallied 10 hits, compared to 8 for the Bulldogs.
Geneva is 5-1-1 overall and will take on Bandera again on Friday, but this time in Boerne.
Tuesday’s game was close and tied at 4-4 after two innings. Geneva took the lead in the fourth with a single run for the 5-4 lead but the Eagles broke it up in the top of the fifth by scoring 7 runs for the 12-4 advantage.
Bandera scored 2 in the sixth to cut the lead in half at 12-6, but the Eagles didn’t allow any more runs and plated an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
Guy Koehler had a good game at the plate for the Eagles and finished with 3 hits and scored 4 runs; George Viña singled, walked twice, pushed in a run and scored; Guy Kohler doubled and singled, picked up an RBI and scored three times, while Chaz Lutz singled, collected 4 RBI and scored 2 runs.
Grant Roberson singled, while Hudson McNew, Shawn George and Ford Elizondo all singled and scored.
Three different pitchers saw action for the Eagles after Jake Roberson went 1.2 innings and gave up 4 hits, 4 runs and 4 walks to go with 3 strikeouts.
Guy George tossed 3.1 innings and was the pitcher of record when the Eagles took the lead for good to pick up the win. George yielded 3 hits, no runs, walked 2 and fanned 5.
Viña closed it out and threw the final 2 innings. All six outs in his 2 innings of work were Ks. He walked 2, gave up 2 hits and 2 runs.
