The Canyon Lake baseball team handed Boerne its second district defeat after they beat the Greyhounds 10-6 in a game that started Tuesday and finished Thursday because of the weather.

BHS is 8-2 in district and 18-7 overall. The Boerne boys visited the Hawks Friday and play Davenport twice this coming week.

Boerne took an early 1-0 lead in the second frame, but it didn’t hold for long after the Hawks scored 3 in their next at bat for the 3-1 advantage.

BHS tied it with 2 runs in the bottom of the third to make it 3-3 but Canyon Lake fired back with 3 more runs in the fourth and had doubled up the Hounds at 6-3 at that point.

The Hawks never trailed from there and added another run in the fifth for the 7-3 advantage.

The Hounds came close to catching CL in the sixth by scoring 3 runs for their best offensive inning of the game and the lead was down to a run at 7-6 but the Hawks put it away with 3 insurance runs in the top of the seventh and opened up a 10-6 edge, which is where it stayed after Boerne didn’t score in the bottom of the seventh.

Boerne had 5 hits in the game and received singles from Walker Hill, Jace Preston, Hudson McNew, Jackson Grimes and Grant Tamplet.

Dylan Perez walked 3 times and scored once, Hill, McNew and Tamplet all scored a run, while Preston drove in 2 runs, Hutson Hendrix picked up an RBI and Reese House walked and pushed in a run.

Campbell Jackson went 3 innings on the hill and gave up 3 hits, 1 earned run, 4 walks and fanned 1, Tanner Tuschinski tossed 1.1 innings and yielded 3 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks and struck out 2, while Thomas Puckett went the final 2.2 frames of the game and scattered 2 hits, gave up 1 earned run, 3 walks and sat down 4 batters.
