Charger track and field teams both second at district

NEW BRAUNFELS — The Champion track and field teams both finished second at their district meet last week.

The top four finishers in each event advanced from district to this week’s Area meet and the top four from area head to regionals set for next weekend at Heroes Stadium.

Both the district and area meets were held at New Braunfels Canyon.

RESULTS (Top 6) Varsity Boys

The boys went into the final event of the evening needing to finish ahead of Wagner to win the district title, but the Thunderbirds held their ground and won the meet with 143 points, compared to 138 for the Chargers after they finished ahead of Champion in the 4x400 relay.

Smithson Valley (98), Seguin (95), Pieper (66), NB Canyon (44), Kerrville Tivy (25) and Veterans Memorial (11) rounded out the field.

Cal Isley was 6th in the 100 dash at 11.24, Landon Heckman finished 6th in the 200 with a 22.85, Caleb Dehart placed 5th in the 400 after clocking in at 51.42, while Luis Tovar won the 800 with a time of 1:56.57 and Dehart was second at 1:56.93.

Tovar also took 1st in the 1600 after posting a 4:24.28, while Charlie Houck came in 4th in the 1600 with a time of 4:28.40.

Houck earned more team points after winning the 3200 when he finished in 9:47 and Luke Grametbauer placed 4th in the race at 9:58.

The Chargers 4x100 relay of Cal Isley, Zach Garcia, Hayden Brace and Jamarri Bowie placed 4th with a time of 42.41, the 4x200 of Landon Heckman, Michael O’Hare, Hayden Brace and Jamarri Bowie was 3rd after posting a 1:28.64 and the 4x400 of Caleb Dehart, Luis Tovar, Jamarri Bowie and Hayden Brace came in 2nd with a combined time of 3:23.

Briggs Jones placed 6th in the high jump after he cleared 6-0, Hayden Brace took 3rd in the long jump with a mark of 20-07.50 and Brace was 2nd in the triple jump with a measurement of 43-02.75.

Landon Kolacny won the pole vault with a mark of 14-06, Brooks Jones finished 2nd at 14-0 and Luke Rossi came in 6th at 13-06.

Riley Wampler placed 2nd in the discus with a throw of 155-09 and Wampler won the shot put after a toss of 53-04.50.

Varsity Girls

Smithson Valley ran away with the girls district title (169.50), the Lady Chargers were second (85) just ahead of 3rd-place Pieper (83), followed by Wagner (71), Seguin (55), Veterans Memorial (42) and Kerrville Tivy (17.50).

Madison Meinke took 4th in the 100 dash with a time of 12.57, Elizabeth Leachman won the 800 after posting a 2:10 and Emma Rice was 4th in the event by finishing in 2:21.

Leachman also won the 1600 after recording a 4:40 and took the race by 38 seconds, while her teammate Kynley Albright placed 3rd in 5:20.

Leachman earned another gold medal in the 3200 with a time of 10:26, Kynley Albright was one spot back in 2nd with a time of 11:51 and Luciana Zazueta Ibarra came in 4th at 12:08, while Ella Bachman finished 4th in the 100 hurdles with a 16.66.

The Chargers 4x100 of Holly Winkenhower, Kinsley Graff, Juliana Syroney and Madison Meinke finished 4th with a time of 49.16, the 4x200 came in 6th at 1:48 and the 4x400 finished 5th in a time of 4:10.

Erin Martin finished 5th in the long jump with a leap of 15-11.25, Grace Mondini was 5th in the triple jump with a measurement of 34-06.25 and Peyton Smith took 3rd in the pole vault after she cleared 11-0.

Lorena Barreiro-Bidot came in 4th in the discus with a toss of 101-04 and Barreiro was 6th in the shot put with a throw of 30-06.75, while Hailee Goodwin placed 2nd in the shot put with a mark of 32-03.
