Champion’s softball team snapped its twogame skid and picked up a much-needed district win against Kerrville Tivy.
The game started Tuesday, was delayed by weather, and finished Wednesday and the Chargers won, 18-9.
Champion is 11-11-2 overall and 5-6 in district. They were at Pieper Friday and close out the regular season this coming week as they fight for a playoff spot.
The Chargers visit Smithson Valley Tuesday and host Seguin next Friday.
Champion’s win helped them split their season series with the Lady Antlers.
The Charger bats came alive against the Antlers after they finished with 18 runs, 18 hits, 18 RBI and blew it open with 10 runs in the top of the seventh.
Tivy actually held a 4-3 advantage after one and added 2 more runs in the second for the 6-3 lead, but the lead didn’t hold.
Champion plated a run in the third to make it 6-4 and then both teams scored 2 runs in the fourth and Kerrville was leading 8-6 but the Chargers tied it in the top of the sixth with 2 runs.
Champion pulled away in the top of the seventh with its 10 runs for the 18-8 lead. Tivy batted in the bottom of the frame and only scored 1 for the final of 18-9.
Abby Brehmer hit a home run, picked up 2 RBI and scored twice, Lillian Ritchie doubled, hit 2 singles, collected 6 RBI and scored twice, while Riley Murrish doubled and singled, picked up an RBI and scored a run.
Torin Tucker singled and walked, pushed in a run and scored twice, Dakota Salazar knocked out 4 singles, drove in a run and scored 3 times, Mylie Parker singled and walked, picked up 2 RBI and scored a run, Madison Coker singled and scored, Alison Kory hit 3 singles, pushed in 3 runs and scored 4 times, while Ryleigh LaRue hit 2 singles drove in 2 runs and scored once.
Ritchie started in the circle and went 6 innings, gave up 7 earned runs, 3 walks and fanned 3, while Parker tossed 4 frames and picked up the win. She didn’t yield a hit or earned run, surrendered 4 walks and sat down 9 batters.
