Comfort jumped on the Florence baseball team early last Friday and scored 8 runs in the first three innings on its way to a 9-5 win over the Buffs.

The Bobcats are 15-5 overall and 4-2 in district. Friday’s win kicked off the second round of district play for the Bobcats team that was off Tuesday and visited Blanco Friday.

Comfort scored 4 runs in the first despite Florence turning a double play in the frame. A walk, a double and 3 singles put the Bobcats up 4-0 with only one out but the Buffs turned two to get out of the jam.

In the third, 3 walks, a single and another double helped Comfort push in 4 more runs and it was 8-0.

The Bobcats added another run in the top of the fifth to open up a 9-0 advantage but the Buffs responded with a 4-run inning of their own in the bottom of the fifth and the Comfort lead was down to 9-4.

CHS didn’t score after the fifth but didn’t have to. Florence tacked on one more run in the bottom of the seventh to make it 9-5 but that’s as close as they came to catching the Cats.

Comfort finished with 10 hits in the game and were led by Mason Matt who doubled, hit 2 singles, scored 2 runs and picked up an RBI, while Tucker Rust also doubled, scored once and pushed in a run. Mason West was patient at the plate and took 3 walks and scored a run, Brooks Davis singled and scored, Micah Nye walked twice, singled, scored 2 runs and pushed in a run, Luke Bohnert singled and drove in a run, Noah Bohnert walked and scored, Zach Jones hit 2 singles, drove in a run and Israel Lopez walked and singled.

Jones went 6 innings on the hill and earned the win on 100 pitches. Jones scattered 4 hits, gave up 2 earned runs, 1 walk and fanned 5.

Mason Matter tossed an inning and yielded a hit, a run and a walk and struck out 1.
