Boerne girls state finals

There was only one goal scored in Thursday's 4A girls state championship match between Boerne and Celina, and unfortunately for the Lady Greyhounds, it was the Lady Bobcats that knocked in the lone goal for the 1-0 victory to win gold.

Boerne brings back silver medals to go with the bronze medals they won the last two years. This second-place finish matches the 2017 team for the best finish in BHS girls soccer history.

Celina has eliminated Boerne from the playoffs the last three seasons and won gold all three times. The last two years, they met in the state semifinals.

Boerne girls

The Boerne High girls advanced to the 4A state finals after the Lady Greyhounds defeated Salado in overtime Wednesday.

Boerne took the 1-0 lead on an Avery Ukeiley unassisted goal at the 8:39 mark from 20 yards out. It stayed there until late in the match when Salado's Shelby Hollywood tied it with less than six minutes remaining in regulation after she scored an unassisted goal in the 74th minute.

It went to overtime and the only goal came from the foot of Kailey Stringfellow who took the Sophia Namvar pass and knocked it in at the 88:15 mark. They still had to play a second overtime period but Boerne's defense held.

The goal the Lady Greyhounds gave up in Wednesday's semifinals match was the only one allowed during regulation or overtime so far in the postseason.
