Davenport’s softball team pulled away with a couple of productive late innings Friday night in Boerne to defeat the Lady Greyhounds.
With the score tied at 3-3 through five innings, the Lady Wolves scored 2 runs in the sixth and another 3 in the seventh to record the 8-3 victory.
Davenport swept the season series with BHS, although Boerne played well at home and closed the gap with the Wolves after getting run ruled in their first meeting.
The Lady Hounds were at Canyon Lake Tuesday and host Fredericksburg Friday as they start to wind down district play. Friday is Senior Night and Parent Night.
Boerne is 15-14-1 overall and 4-3 in district.
In the third, Taylor Wilson singled, moved to second on a sac bunt by Cerissa Nasis, and then scored on a Breanna Krause singled to give Boerne the early lead.
Davenport tied it in the top of the fourth with a single run and then took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth, thanks to a solo homer and a couple of singles.
Boerne tied it in the bottom of the fifth with three singles and a walk. Nasis started off the inning with a single and scored to make it 3-2.
Krause, who also singled in the frame, added another run and it was tied 3-3.
Another Davenport home run, this one a 2-run shot in the sixth, gave the Wolves the final momentum swing of the game at 5-3.
Davenport closed it out with 3 more runs in the seventh and had a good inning with 2 singles and 2 doubles before Boerne could end the inning.
BHS didn’t manage a hit in its final two at bats.
Boerne finished with 9 base knocks compared to 15 for the Wolves.
Wilson had their only extra base hit after she doubled to go with her single and she scored a run. Nasis tallied 2 singles and scored once, Krause also recorded 2 singles, walked once, pushed in a run and crossed home plate one time.
Lizzy Thornton also slapped out 2 singles and Payton Dyal finished with a single.
Jesseanna Aguirre went all 7 innings in the circle for BHS and didn’t walk a batter and struck out one.
