The Dog & Pony will be closing its doors at the end of the month at its current location on South Main Street.
Joey Boatright, Dog & Pony operating partner, Monday said the business will wrap up its five-year run there but might look elsewhere if an arrangement can be made.
“Some stuff came up and, unfortunately, we’re done at the end of the month, our lease is up at our current location,” Boatright said. “April 28-29 will be our last days in operation.”
Dog & Pony was jammed with total solar eclipse viewers, who enjoyed eclipse-themed menu items while listening to solar and space-oriented music in the open patio grounds.
The Dog & Pony — which has been a huge supporter of Boerne High School athletics, as well as local charitable organizations and agencies — opened in 2019. Boatright came aboard in February 2021. “Me and my partners own Dog & Pony as a brand and as a business, so if the right opportunity were to come up, I think we’d definitely be interested,” he said.
He said the lease non-renewal “was definitely a shock for us. It was unexpected.” Dog & Pony was on a five-year lease.
“We’re going to work with the new tenants and see what kind of inventory they might want to carry on from us,” he said.
The restaurant and concert venue was just named a Texas Travel Awards winner for Best Live Music Venue in the awards’ small market category.
Launched by the publishers of Austin Monthly, San Antonio Magazine and Texas Music, the awards were created to celebrate the top travel destinations and attractions across the Lone Star State.
Of Dog & Pony, the award presenters said, “Settle in for a relaxing time on the incredible covered deck while you enjoy a selection of artists and artistic stylings as live accompaniment.
“Dog & Pony has something for every music lover, including large shows on the big stage, intimate shows on the covered deck, and always supports the community, hosting events with local schools, bands and nonprofit groups.” Boatright urged Dog & Pony enthusiasts to keep an eye trained on social media as they announce their plans for the rest of the month.
“We might throw some parties and have some good deals out there,” he said, adding, “I feel the community’s going to miss us; but we’re going to miss the community, too.”
