Geneva splits two softball games this week

The Geneva School of Boerne played two softball games and split the two against a pair of John Paul II schools.

Geneva beat Corpus Christi JP II on Tuesday and fell to Schertz JP II Wednesday, with both games in Boerne.

The Eagles are 2-10 overall.

Vs. Schertz JP II

Geneva grabbed the early lead against the Guardians at 2-0 in the first inning, but the Schertz school recorded a couple of strong innings and went on to defeat the Eagles, 12-7.

After the Geneva 2-0 lead, the Guardians answered with 4 runs in the second and held a 4-2 advantage.

The Eagles fired back with 3 runs in the bottom of the second and retook the lead at 5-4, but JP II tallied 4 more runs in the top of the third, followed by single runs in the fourth and fifth frames and held a 10-5 advantage.

Geneva tried to rally but only mustered 2 runs in its final five at bats, with both runs coming in the bottom fifth to make it 10-7.

JP II added 2 more runs in the top of the seventh to build its lead to 12-7.

The Guardians finished with 9 hits and the Eagles tallied 8 but committed 5 errors.

Lily Flora was 3 for 4 at the plate and scored 2 runs for Geneva, Kate Friesenhahn finished 3 for 4 with 3 RBI and Maggie Chisholm went 2 for 3 at the plate.

Vs. CC JP II

The Eagles won 10-0 in five innings.

Madeline Egbert was in the circle for Geneva and struck out 6 batters, walked one, only gave up two hits and didn’t allow a run. She has been the winning pitcher in both their wins this year.

Geneva coach Tim Millage said they received a great performance from Egbert and the defense.

“This was an excellent performance by our starting pitcher, Madeline Egbert,” he said. “Her control was terrific and our defense supported her with solid plays in the field.”

The Eagles plated 2 in the first and second frames and then blew it open with 5 runs in the third for the 9-0 lead.

Nobody scored in the fourth and then the Eagles kicked in the mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth when they pushed in a run.

Reese Smith went 3 for 3 at the plate with 1 RBI, Kate Friesenhahn hit a 2-RBI single in the first to get things going and Trinity Cloud finished 3 for 3 with 3 RBI.
