Boerne baseball blows out Battlin’ Billies

Boerne and Fredericksburg will meet twice this week in district baseball and the Greyhounds took the first game with the Battlin’ Billies Tuesday on the road, 13-1.

The Hounds were looking to sweep Fred Friday at home. BHS is 17-6 overall and 7-1 in district.

Boerne never trailed in Friday’s game and Walker Hill helped get things started with a solo home run in the first frame for the quick 1-0 lead.

The Hounds added 2 more runs in the third and again hit one out of the park after Hudson McNew blasted a 2-run shot to make it 3-0.

BHS created more separation in the fourth frame by scoring 7 runs to build a 10-0 lead. Four walks, a double by Jackson Grimes, 3 singles and a Bulldogs errors helped Boerne push in its 7 runs.

Bandera finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a single run to make it 10-1, but the Hounds answered with 3 in the top of the fifth and once the Billies didn’t score in the bottom of the fifth, the game ended.

Boerne had 13 hits, the 2 homers by Hill and McNew, with Hill scoring 2 runs in the game, while McNew added a single, 2 runs scored and finished with 3 RBI.

Dylan Perez hit 2 singles, drove in a run and scored twice, Jace Preston knocked out 2 singles, took a walk and drove in 2 runs, Ryan Hooper singled and walked, picked up an RBI and scored once, Grimes doubled and hit 2 singles, pushed in 3 runs and crossed home plate once, Grant Tamplet singled, had an RBI and scored a run, Reese House singled and scored and Ronnie Scarbrough walked and scored.

Campbell Jackson went 4 innings and earned the win on 67 pitches. He gave up 3 hits, 1 run 2 walks and struck out 2.

Thomas Puckett tossed an inning and didn’t yield a hit, walk or run and fanned 1.
