Champion competed at the District 26-5A golf tournament at the Vaaler Creek Golf Club and advanced one team and one individual to the upcoming regional meet.

The Lady Chargers finished 2nd at district and move on to regionals, while Phoenix Guerra advances as an individual after he placed 2nd individually.

A second Charger boys team placed 5th and a second Champion girls team was 7th.

Only the top two teams from district, plus the top 2 individuals not on an advancing team, make it to regionals at Champion Lakes Golf Course in McAllen, set for April 15-16 for the girls and April 17-18 for the boys.

Varsity Girls

Champion scored a 633 with a 313 and 320 for second place. Kerrville Tivy won the district with a consecutive rounds of 313s for a 626.

Smithson Valley shot a 659 (332,327) for 3rd, Pieper had a 670 (344,326), New Braunfels Canyon shot a 716 (372,344), Pieper 2 scored a 729 (362,367) and Champion 2 rounded out the field with a 756 (379,377) for 7th.

The Champion girls team, made up of four seniors, finished 8-9-10-11-12 after Cate Johnson carded a 156 with consecutive rounds of 78s, Caroline Franz was one shot back at 157 with rounds of 77 and 80, while Sage Langenberg and Camryn Leslie both scored 161s after Langenberg shot a 77 and 84 and Leslie finished with rounds of 82 and 79, while Brooke Castillon came in at 164 with rounds of 81 and 83. Langenberg is the only one not a senior.

For Champion 2, Kenlee Runyan led the team with a 177 that was good enough to tie for 17th place with rounds of 90 and 87, Marilyn Curd finished with rounds of 93 and 91 for a 184, Mary Parker scored a 195 after shooting a 92 and 103, while Sophia Mazzu recorded a 200 with rounds of 104 and 96.

Varsity Boys

Champion 1 shot a twoday score of 629 with rounds of 328 and 301. The 27 strokes they shaved off between rounds wasn’t enough to get them past the top two teams, both from Smithson Valley.

Smithson Valley 1 shot a 594 (303,291) and Smithson Valley II finished with a 618 (304,314).

The Champion girls had two golf teams at district and one of them placed 2nd to advance to regionals. Team members are Mary Caroline Parker, Marilyn Curd, Sage Langenberg, Camryn Leslie, Caroline Franz, Brooke Castillon, Cate Johnson, Sophia Mazzu and Kenlee Runyan-Nibling.

A second Champion squad finished fifth with a 702 after rounds of 343 and 359. Pieper came in fourth with a 656 (331,325), NB Canyon was 6th with a 725 (363,362).

Phoenix Guerra finished 2nd overall with rounds of 77 and 70 for a 147, Tristan Frantz scored a

160 after shooting an 85 and 75, Zach Franz was one shot back at 161 with rounds of 81, 80, Dylan Buckley scored a 174 after carding an 85 and 89 and Chase Knight came in at 163 with rounds of 87 and 76.

Gavin Tavitas-Steele led Champion 2 with a 167 with rounds of 82 and 85. Jack Thomas shot a 176 with rounds of 84 and 92, Matthew Mendoza scored a 180 with 92 and 88, Declan McPhillips scored a 182 with 88 and 94, while Aidan Taylor was one shot back with a 183 with rounds of 89 and 94.

Barrett Bouslog played as an individual medalist and carded a 186 with rounds of 90 and 96.
