Boerne’s Ava Renteria hit two home runs – both in the third inning – to help the Greyhound softball team defeat Bandera Tuesday night.
The Lady Hounds won the game 17-7 in five innings at Bandera. BHS hosted Davenport Friday.
Tuesday’s game was the start of second-round district action for both teams and leaves Boerne at 4-2 in 27-4Aand 15-13-1 overall.
Bandera was actually leading 2-1 until the Lady Hounds blew it open with 11 runs in the third inning.
Renteria was the third batter in the frame and hit a two-run shot to left field.
Later in the inning after the team had gone through the lineup, Renteria sent another over the fence, this one to centerfield, for another two-run shot.
When the inning was over, Boerne had sent 16 batters to the plate, 10 of them with two outs. They had 8 hits in the frame – 2 homers, 5 singles and a double – took 4 walks and took advantage of 2 Bulldog errors to score their 11 runs.
When the inning was over, Boerne held a 12-2 lead. After that, the teams just traded runs with both scoring 3 runs in the fourth and 2 in the fifth to make it 17-7.
The Lady Hounds finished with 15 hits in the game, 4 of them for extra bases.
Renteria added a single to her 2 home runs, scored 3 times and collected 6 RBI, Taylor Wilson tripled and singled, pushed in 2 runs and scored 3 runs, Payton Dyal doubled and singled, picked up 3 RBI and scored a run.
Cerissa Nasis hit 2 singles, had 2 RBI and scored 3 runs, Breanna Krause singled, walked twice, picked up an RBI and scored twice, while Lizzy Thornton knocked out 2 singles and scored a run.
Maddie Vasquez hit 2 singles, took 2 walks, pushed in 2 runs and scored 2 runs, Ryleigh Hastings singled and walked and scored a run and Brooklynn Thomason plated 2 runs.
Jesseanna Aguirre went 3 innings in the circle and picked up the win. She gave up 2 hits, no earned runs, 3 walks and struck out 2.
Dyal tossed 2 innings and yielded 4 hits, 4 earned runs, 3 walks and sat down 4.
