Wolverines edge Eagles in extra innings, 5-4

The baseball teams from Geneva School of Boerne and San Antonio HomeSchool went extra innings last Thursday before the Wolverines prevailed in eight frames, 5-4.

Geneva slips to 11-6 overall and has dropped two in a The Eagles play two district games this week.

On Tuesday they hosted Corpus Christi John Paul and on Wednesday they’ll tangle with Schertz John Paul at 6:30 p.m.

The Wolverines broke open a 0-0 game with 3 runs in the top of the third. A Daniel Carlton single drove in 2 runs and a Geneva error added another run and the Eagles were trailing 3-0.

Geneva answered with couple of runs in the bottom the fourth. With two outs, Eagles loaded the bases two walks and a hit batter.

Bryce Hanover singled and brought in Jake Roberson and Gray Bruner to make it 3-2.

It stayed there until the Eagles tied it in the bottom of the one out, Grant Roberson doubled and scored on a Shawn George single to tie it at 3-3.

George eventually made it to third and if he scored, the Eagles would have won, but the Wolverines recorded the infield and it went to the next frame.

In the eighth, the Wolverines loaded the bases with no outs and scored on a single. A sac fly added another run and the Wolverines were leading before the Eagles could of the inning.

Geneva had a good start to of the eighth and its two batters — Hanover Cannon Menn — both singled. The next batter, Rooster Jons, hit into a fielder’s choice, allowing Hanover to score and the lead was down to one at 5-4 and only one out, but the rally ended there. The Wolverines retired the next two batters with a strikeout and a ground out to end it. Grant Roberson doubled and scored, George hit 2 singles and drove in a run, while Hanover also hit 2 singles, picked up an RBI and scored run.
