BHS baseball bounces back against Bulldogs

The Boerne High baseball team bounced back in a big way from its only district loss last week (vs. Wimberley) after the Greyhounds run ruled Bandera Tuesday night in Boerne.

Boerne won 13-2 in 4.5 innings against the Bulldogs. The Greyhounds visited Bandera Thursday to close out their series with the Bulldogs and won 6-4. For more on the second Bandera game, see the Wednesday online edition of the Boerne Star.

Boerne is 6-1 in district and 16-6 overall.

In Tuesday’s game, Dylan Perez had a big night at the plate for the Greyhounds and finished with a home run in the second and added 2 doubles later in the game and finished with 3 runs scored and 4 RBI.

The Hounds were up 4-0 after two innings but the Bulldogs answered with 2 runs in the top of the third to cut the lead in half at 4-2.

Those runs in the top of the third would be Bandera’s only 2 of the game and Boerne answered those with 9 runs in the bottom half of the inning to bust it open at 13-2.

Boerne sent 15 batters to the plate in the frame that included 7 walks, 3 singles and a double by Perez. Boerne’s first 7 batters in the inning reached before the Bulldogs recorded the first out.

Neither team scored after the third frame.

The Hounds finished with 8 hits, including the 3 hits by Perez, while Hutson Hendrix, Jace Preston, Ryan Hooper, Reese House and Grant Tamplet all knocked out 1 single each.

Hendrix picked up 3 RBI, while Preston, House and Tamplet drove in 2 runs apiece.

Walker Hill walked 3 times and scored twice as three different Bandera pitchers combined to walk 12 Greyhound batters.

Hooper and House both crossed home plate 2 times, while Tamplet, Brooks Perez, Hudson McNew and Drew Coronado all scored one run each.

Campbell Jackson went 3 innings on the bump to earn the win and gave up 1 hit, 2 runs, 3 walks and fanned 5.

Thomas Puckett and Tanner Tuschinski both tossed 1 inning each and neither gave up a hit or run, while Puckett sat down 2 and Tuschinski struck out 1.
