Respect our natural resources
Editor, Today is Friday, March 22, 2024, International World Water Day. So today I’m reflecting on my current association with water in Boerne.
My family has owned and lived on some beautiful acreage near a creek for decades. This year our well went dry for the first time.
Waterfowl, native and migratory, depend on the creek for fishing and respite on their migratory journey.
Unfortunately, it’s become more difficult to clean Styrofoam, from fast food and convenience stores, from the creek. Plastic gets tangled around the limbs and plants.
The housing development that was built up across the creek has created street drainage so that all the grease, oil and gasoline from the asphalt street washes directly into the creek.
I don’t know how these things can be changed. I’m only asking that our residents, in lieu of World Water Day, become more respectful of our natural resources, and those that depend on them.
Without water there is no life.
