Boerne Champion swept another district opponent in 26-5A baseball after the Chargers closed out last week with a 12-0 victory over Veterans Memorial.

Champion is 4-0 in 26-5A and has swept Wagner and now the Patriots.

The Chargers (16-4 overall) hosted New Braunfels Canyon Tuesday and visit the Cougars Thursday as they look for another sweep.

Three of Champion’s district wins have come via the run rule and that was the case last Friday. The Chargers only needed 6 hits and took advantage of 4 Patriot errors.

After a 3-0 lead in the first inning, the Chargers pulled away in the third inning with 7 runs for the 10-0 lead. Champion added 2 more runs in the fourth and after Veterans Memorial didn’t score in the top of the fifth, the mercy rule kicked in.

Matthew Booth was almost perfect in his 5 innings of work on the hill after he didn’t give up a hit, walk or run, while walking 2. Booth struck out 2 and only needed 63 pitches to get the win.

Jordan Ballin walked 3 times, hit a single and scored 3 runs, Evan Kuhl singled, drove in 2 runs and scored a run, Garland Whitehead singled, picked up an RBI and scored once, while Cam Logan walked twice and scored a run.

Sam Miller walked, drove in a run and scored, Gage Goldberg singled and drove in 2 runs, Quinn Grable also singled and pushed in 2 runs and scored once, Andrew Harrison walked and plated 2 runs, Owen Kuhl singled, collected 2 RBI and scored a run, while Brock Browning scored once.
