The Smithson Valley softball team looked impressive last Friday night when they challenged Champion at Charger Field.
Smithson Valley scored in all 5 innings, knocked out 2 doubles and 3 home runs — 2 in one inning alone — and went on to defeat the Lady Chargers, 12-0, in Friday’s district contest.
Champion slips to 3-3 in 26-5A and 9-8-2 overall. They were on the road for two this week.
The Chargers visited Seguin Tuesday to close out the first round of district and then open second-round action Thursday at Wagner.
Smithson Valley scored 4 runs in the first inning against the Chargers and added 5 more in the fifth for 9 of their runs in the first and last innings.
In between, the Lady Rangers scored single runs from the second through fourth frames. They took advantage of 7 Champion errors in the game as only 3 of their 12 runs were earned.
It was a pretty flawless game for the Lady Rangers after they didn’t commit an error, while pitcher Madaline Haun didn’t walk a batter and only allowed one hit all game.
Champion’s Torin Tucker singled in the bottom of the fourth to account for their only hit of the contest. Dakota Salazar followed and reached on a fielder’s choice.
Lillian Ritchie pitched 3 innings, gave up 4 hits, 1 earned runs, 3 walks and fanned 2. Mylie Parker threw 2 innings and yielded 4 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 walks and struck out 2.
