BOERNE — Champion High School senior Nicolas Parra has been named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist.
Parra is one of just 15,000 students, representing less than 1% of U.S. high school graduating seniors, to receive the distinction.
Parra is involved with many activities and services on and off campus. He is president of Spanish National Honor Society, the National Honor Society, drum major for the Mighty Charger Band and is a member of the student council leadership committee He is a role model for his fellow classmates helping them with various projects throughout the school year, Bryan Benway, Boerne ISD director of communications, said of Parra.
The National Merit Scholarship Finalist selection process involves evaluating substantial amounts of information about finalists obtained from both students and their high schools.
Included are the finalist’s academic record, PSAT/NMSQT scores, the student’s essay, demonstrated leadership and contributions to school and community activities, and a school official’s written recommendation and characterization of the finalist.
