Boerne Champion didn’t have too many problems putting away the Patriots in Tuesday’s district baseball game at Veterans Memorial.
The Chargers rolled to a 16-2 victory over Veterans in five innings. Champion is 15-4 overall and 3-0 in district and hosted the Patriots Friday as they look for the series sweep.
Champion starts another series with New Braunfels Canyon next week and hosts the Cougars Tuesday and visits NBC Thursday.
The Chargers never trailed in Tuesday’s game and came out with a 4-run first inning. The Patriots answered with 2 in the bottom of the frame but Champion basically put the game out of reach in the top of the second with 9 runs for the 13-2 lead.
The Chargers added 2 more in the third and another in the fourth, while the Patriots didn’t score after the first frame.
In Champion’s big inning, they batted 13, six of those with two outs and finished with a dozen hits in the game.
Owen Kuhl doubled, scored twice and picked up an RBI, Quinn Grable doubled and singled, scored twice, walked once and pushed in a run, Jordan Ballin walked twice, singled, drove in 2 runs and plated 2 runs.
Pearce Kelly scored a run, Evan Kuhl hit 2 singles, drove in a run and scored twice, Brock Browning singled and scored 2 runs Garland Whitehead singled, pushed in 2 runs and scored 2 runs, Cam Logan singled and scored, Sam Miller singled, collected 3 RBI and scored a run, Gage Goldberg singled, walked and pushed in a run, Jaedyn Yamaguchi walked and picked up an RBI, while Aidan Smith singled, scored and had an RBI.
Sawyer Smith picked up another district win after he yielded 3 hits, 2 runs and 1 walk while striking out 2 in three innings of work.
AJ Grizzaffi finished out the game and tossed the final two frames and struck out six of the seven batters he faced and didn’t give up a hit, walk or run.
