The Chargers softball team picked up its second run-rule victory in district play after Champion defeated Pieper on the road Tuesday, 13-2, in five innings.
Champion improves to 9-7-2 overall and 3-2 in district. They hosted Smithson Valley Friday and visit Seguin Tuesday to close out the first round of district.
Pieper scored first in the game with a single run in the first but it was all Chargers after that.
Champion scored 4 in the second, another in the third and then closed it with 4 in the fourth and fifth frames.
The number 13 proved to be lucky for the Chargers after they scored 13 runs on 13 hits.
Mylie Parker knocked out 3 singles, scored 3 runs and picked up an RBI, Torin Tucker and Dakota Salazar both singled and scored twice, Abby Brehmer singled, scored and drove in a run, while Lillian Ritchie doubled, picked up 2 RBI and scored a run.
Madison Coker doubled and singled, pushed in 2 runs and scored once, Ryleigh LaRue hit 2 singles, drove in a run and scored once, while Alison Kory finished with 2 hits, 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.
It was a good day for Parker who also picked up the win from the circle to go with her 3 hits. She went all 5 innings and gave up 3 hits, 2 runs, walked 2 and struck out 6 on 92 pitches.
