Fourth inning costly to Boerne softball squad

One bad inning for the Boerne softball team turned the tide against the Lady Greyhounds in Tuesday’s district contest at Davenport.

The Wolves were leading 3-2 when the game went into the bottom of the fourth inning and then Davenport blew it open with 11 runs.

That one big inning was the difference as the Lady Wolves went on to defeat the Lady Greyhounds, 15-5, in five innings.

Boerne is 12-12-1 overall and 1-1 in district. They hosted Canyon Lake Friday and visit Fredericksburg Tuesday.

The Wolves sent 15 batters to the plate in that fourth inning and scored 11 runs on 10 hits, including a grand slam to bump the lead to 14-2.

BHS fought to the end and fired back with 3 runs in the top of the fifth and the lead was 14-5, but it was just too many runs to make up.

Three singles in the bottom of the fifth by Davenport drove in the run that was needed to kick in the 10-run mercy rule at 15-5 to end it.

Boerne finished with 8 hits from eight different batters. Ava Renteria doubled and scored, Taylor Wilson singled, Cerissa Nasis singled and drove in a run, Riley Partin singled, scored and picked up an RBI, Lizzy Thornton singled, walked, scored once and pushed in a run, Maddie Vasquez singled, Ryleigh Hastings singled and picked up 2 RBI, Payton Dyal singled and scored and Brooklynn Thomason walked twice and scored once.

Jesseanna Aguirre went most of the game in the circle struck out 2, while Dyal faced 4 batters.
