Boerne Champion closed out district play in boys and girls soccer on March 8 and the teams aren’t scheduled to begin playoffs until March 26, a break of 18 days.
Instead of going almost three weeks between games, both Charger teams took part in warm-up matches Wednesday against New Braunfels to knock off whatever rust might have accumulated.
Up next the Champion squads open the postseason Tuesday on the road.
Varsity Girls
New Braunfels defeated the Lady Chargers Wednesday, 3-2.
Ava Slay tallied both girls for the Champion girls squad that is 11-9-2 overall entering the postseason.
The Lady Chargers enter the playoffs as the No. 4 seed from their district and open with Leander at Dripping Springs on Tuesday, 7 p.m.
Leander won District 25-5A at 10-0-4.
Varsity Boys
The Champion boys played the Unicorns to a 1-1 draw to leave the Chargers with a record of 12-4-4 overall as they enter the postseason.
Champion flipped to host Tuesday’s playoff match but lost the flip and will travel to Leander Rouse for a 7 p.m. contest.
The Chargers are the No. 3 seed and Leander Rouse is the No. 2 seed from 25-5A after they posted a district mark of 9-3-2.
In Wednesday’s match, Brogan Dempsey knocked in their only goal on the Liam Willis assist.
Afterwards, the team’s did penalty kicks to prepare for the playoffs and Chargers goalkeeper Christian Flores came up with 3 saves on 5 kicks.
