Both Charger, Greyhound tennis squads have had busy springs

The Boerne High and Champion tennis teams have played in several tournaments lately.

After taking off for spring break, they’ll continue action this weekend. The Hounds are scheduled to play in the Hill Country Championships this weekend in Fredericksburg, while the Chargers are at the Kemah Boardwalk Invitational in the Houston Area.

Boerne High

The Boerne High tennis team has played in three tournaments recently.

Before the break, the Greyhounds were at the Clark Invitational where Ben Rowe and Nick Dube placed second in boys doubles.

The Greyhounds also played at the Brennan Spring Spectacular and Justin Barraza took second in the A draw boys singles.

In doubles play, Ryan Spicer and Lily Tarwater won the B draw mixed doubles, Georgia Stokes and Jacqueline Kornet were second in A girls doubles and Ben Rowe and Nick Dube were third in A draw boys doubles.

The Greyhounds were also at the NISD tourney at Anne Marie and while they didn’t win medals, they had a few strong showings.

Justin Barraza finished 4th in boys singles, Georgia Stokes and Jacqueline Kornet placed 6th in girls doubles, while Ben Rowe and Nick Dube were the boys consolation winners.

Champion

Champion played at the Clark Invitational and had several earn medals.

Charles Henderson and Amber Lewis placed 1st in the mixed doubles A draw, Sydni Sage and Katelyn McLaughlin were 2nd in girls doubles A draw, while Matthew Caldwell and Ethan Wolf were 1st in the boys doubles B draw.

Kayden Cantu and Christina Ramon Alfaro were 1st in the girls doubles B draw, while Cameron Zapata and Ben Nicholson were 1st in the mixed doubles B draw.

The Chargers were also at the Northside Gold tournament and placed 2nd as a team but didn’t have anybody medal.

“It was strange that we didn’t medal but we did really well,” Champion coach Joey Cantu said.

Champion’s Charles Henderson and Amber Lewis were 1st in the mixed doubles A draw at the Clark Invitational.
