Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kim Blohm has a new title to add to her resume: 2024 Small Business Champion of the Year.
Blohm received word March 8 that she was being recognized by the San Antonio District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration with the “Business Champion” award.
“I congratulate you as the district’s ‘Small Business Champion of the Year,’” Angela Burton, acting district director of the San Antonio District Office, wrote to Blohm. “Your hard work, innovative ideas and dedication to your community have helped you succeed.”
Blohm, Boerne Chamber president and CEO since 2019, was quick to credit the entire chamber organization for the award.
“It feels amazing. It’s honestly a whole chamber award in my opinion,” Blohm said.
“From our board of directors that helps lead, to our staff and all of our incredible members, they allow us to do what we do here at the chamber,” she said, adding, “They trust us, and that means more to us than anything.”
To be recognized, she said, is a reward in itself. “It reinforces what we’re doing here, our mission, and it feels great.”
Some movers and shakers in the Boerne community said they hold Blohm in equally high regard.
Staci Almager, Hill Country Family Services CEO, praised Blohm’s leadership abilities.
“Kim is a phenomenal champion for business leaders. Her passion and commitment for helping business leaders achieve their goals is absolutely unparalleled,” Almager said. “She is innovative, creative and empathetic. She is a gift to the Boerne community.”
“Kim Blohm radiates passion to transform, improve and connect the community,” said Sonia Aguillon, president of the GVTC Foundation.
“Since stepping into the role, she has become the staple to building a stronger network as many seek her assistance in leading initiatives, providing guidance with her knowledge and connections.” Aguillon called Blohm “a strong professional, and even more importantly an incredible human” who she said is “admired for having a servant’s heart, being genuine, always promoting others and commended for always going the extra mile.”
“Kim exemplifies the meaning of service and is always a pleasure to work with,” she added.
Edward Rogers, deputy speaker pro tempore of the Texas Silver Haired Legislature, said he directs all prospective members to the Boerne Chamber, without hesitation.
“Through challenges that other chambers could not overcome, our chamber staff and volunteer leadership persevered and flourished with an enthusiastic, talented steam inspired by her leadership,” Rogers said. “In a town where high expectations are par for the course, our chamber exceeds those. It's a privilege to be a chamber member. Kim's the reason.”
Connie McCall Clark, a free-lance writer, journalist and marketing professional at conniecanwrite.com, repeated the “champion” phrase when talking about Blohm.
“Kim is my go-to person for any questions and comments as I navigate producing leads for my small business,” Clark said. “She is a champion for assisting businesses in the area succeed in attaining their goals.”
Blohm said the honor justifies the work the chamber is doing for its membership and the city.
“It shows that even though we’re a small town or a small community, we’re doing big things,” Blohm said. “That puts us on the map to say, ‘We're doing it right. What we have going on here is the right thing,’ and it's something to be a part of and something to be proud of.”
Blohm will receive her official recognition May 2 at the Small Business Week Award ceremony in San Antonio.
