The Champion track and field team was at the recent Somerset Relays and had a strong showing after both varsity squads took first place.

The Champion boys won the meet with 205 points and the Lady Chargers tallied 250.5 points for first.

Champion was also at Alamo Heights before spring break and then took this week off. They’ll return to action March 21 at the NEISD meet at Heroes Stadium.

Varsity Boys

At Somerset, Landon Heckman placed 2nd in the 100 in 11.43, Jamarri Bowie placed 2nd in the 200 with a time of 23.37 and Zach Garcia was 6th in 24.15.

Hayden Brace won the 400 in a time of 53.19 and Robert Wegleitner finished 5th in 55.89, while Caleb DeHart took 2nd in the 800 in 2:01.77 and William Coover captured 5th in 2:08.49.

Champion did well in the 1600 after Charlie Houck was 3rd in 4:37, Caleb DeHart came in 5th in 4:43.73 and Sean Edwards placed 6th in 4:43.76.

Luis Tovar won the 3200 in 9:58, Luke Grametbauer came in 3rd at 10:21 and Patrick Thornton finished 5th in 10:51.

Robert Wegleitner came in 2nd in 17.10 in the 110 hurdles and Joshua Hierholzer posted a 42.53 in the 300 hurdles for 2nd.

In relay events, Joshua Hierholzer, Michael O’Hare, Hayden Brace and Jamarri Bowie combined for 2nd in the 4x100 relay, while the 4x400 of O’Hare, Luis Tovar, Bowie and Brace teamed up for 1st in a time of 3:33.

In field events, Hayden Brace took 1st in the long jump at 20-6 and Joshua Hierholzer came in 2nd at 20-4.5.

Riley Wampler won the shot put with a throw of 50-9.5 and Nico Lopez finished 2nd with a toss of 45-5.25.

Wampler also won the discus with a toss of 154-9.5, Nico Lopez came in 5th at 117-7 and Chase Hollingsworth was 6th in 114-6.5.

Hayden Brace won the triple jump with a leap of 42-6, Dev Himansu Patel was second in 39-0.5, while Christopher Buchanan and Corben Cutcher were 5th and 6th in the high jump after they both cleared 5-6.

Landon Kolacny won the pole vault with a vault of 14-6 and Luke Rossi was 2nd at 14-6.

Also, in the 100 and 400 wheelchair events, Ephraim Tonn-Bourg turned in times of 18.64 and 1:05.91.

Varsity Girls

Madison Meinke won the 100 in 12.70, Juliana Syroney took 4th in 13.34 and Hevyhn Littlejohn tied for 6th with a 13.64.

Meinke also placed 3rd in the 200 after clocking in at 27.19, while Amora Cummings, Michelle Cerna and Grace Mondini went 2-3-4 in the 400 after Cummings posted a 1:04.61, Cerna was 3rd with a 1:04.73 and Mondini ran a 1:06.31 for 4th.

Kynley Albright won the 800 with a time of 2:23 and Emma Rice was 3rd at 2:27. Albright also captured 1st in the 1600 after running a 5:21 and Breanna Hempton finished 5th in 5:46, while in the 3200, Luciana Zazueta placed 4th in the 13:01.

Ella Bachman won the 100 hurdles in 17.09 and Kinsley Graff came in 2nd in a time of 18.61, while Bachman was 3rd in the 300 hurdles in 55.09.

In the 4x100 relay, Kinsley Graff, Holly Winkenhower, Juliana Syroney and Madison Meinke teamed up for 2nd with a 50.18, while the 4x200 relay of Mikayla Green, Winkenhower, Erin Martin and Savanah Wayment came in 2nd in 1:51 and the 4x400 of Green, Michelle Cerna, Erin Martin and Wayment won the race with a time of 4:20.

In field events, Lauren Bell won the long jump with a distance of 16-7.5, Grace Mondini was 2nd in 16-3 and Erin Martin came in 5th with a 15-10.

Hailee Goodwin captured 1st in the shot put with a throw of 36-5.5, Lorena Barreiro-Bidot was 4th at 31-4.5 and Cameron Wampler came in 5th at 30-8.5.

Wampler took 1st in the discus with a toss of 115-4.5, Barreiro-Bidot took 3rd at 89-7 and Goodwin was 4th at 88-3.

Grace Mondini captured 1st in the triple jump with a leap of 33-8.5 and Lauren Ball was 2nd at 31-5.5, while in the high jump, Taylor Fenton took 1st in the high jump after she cleared 5-5 and Erin Martin came in 2nd with a height of 5-1.

Peyton Smith vaulted to 1st in the pole vault after she cleared 11-9 and Vivian Cardenas was 3rd at 9-0.
