Hospitality: Spring in Comfort offers sporting, walking, dining experiences

COMFORT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Hospitality: Spring in Comfort offers sporting, walking, dining experiences

What is it that attracts us to a place, inspires us to visit the first time and then stirs us to return — again and again — because the experience was so nice?

We are talking about hospitality in a broad sense here, and we will bring the focus right into Comfort.

One internet definition of hospitality is this: “The friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers.”

I, for one, enjoy providing hospitality to dinner guests. I plan a menu that coordinates nicely and invite guests who may not know each other but who, I think, will get along well.

I clean my house and set the table with the best china, chill some white wine and open some red, and we are ready to go.

So, what gives Comfort the reputation of being hospitable?

We can start with location: the Texas Hill Country, where scenery and natural beauty abound.

And what better place to offer something unusual for the outdoor enthusiast.

Take, for example, Flat Rock Ranch Mountain Bike Park. This facility boasts marked trails that are color-coded for the level of difficulty, so that the experienced biker is challenged while the beginner is not overwhelmed.

And talk about views; little can compare. As spring becomes more and more a reality each day, bring your mountain bike to Flat Rock Ranch for a memorable time.

If you prefer hunting, Comfort is home to Joshua Creek Shooting Ranch, where you can spend a day, a week, or more.

Several forms of lodging are available and sumptuous

meals are prepared. You will have the opportunity to hunt various kinds of wildlife; some that walk on all fours, others that fly and some that swim. This place is beyond beautiful and truly hospitable.

Cave Without a Name is another “must see” natural phenomena whose beauty is beyond description. What a comfortable place to visit in the middle of summer when it is scorching outside, and just 65 degrees in the cave year-round.

If you are not the outdoorsy type, Comfort will accommodate you as well. This charming community boasts overnight accommodations from simple to elegant. You will find guest houses large and small right in town, as well as many options out in the countryside.

As for leisure time activities, we invite you to relax with a glass of wine in the Historic District and enjoy people-watching. Head to a local tavern on the edge of town, or travel just outside Comfort to our two wineries, where you will find not only delicious wine but also entertainment that is regularly offered.

Hungry? Comfort offers several spots for casual dining that provide a variety of specialties and staples. Baked goods made from scratch, creative soups, salads and sandwiches, hand-tossed pizzas, Italian and Mexican dishes, grab-n-go markets and great spots for that morning cup of joe to keep you in town several days.

Many out-of-town travelers who stop at the Comfort Visitor Center (same place as the Greater Comfort Area Chamber of Commerce) simply want to know where they can just walk around. The downtown Historic District of Comfort sports several examples of 19th century German- style architecture, substantial limestone buildings and lovely frame homes.

Businesses and residences stand side-by-side and make for a delightful walking tour of the town. Maps that guide your walk are available to pick up at the Chamber office. We are open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

We invite you to put our community on your “places to go and things to do” list, because we know you will surely find Comfort in Texas!
