Greyhounds play in Rattlers baseball tourney

Boerne High played in the San Marcos tournament where they posted a 2-2 mark after winning their first two and dropping their last two.

BHS is 11-5 overall and closed out non-district play. The Greyhounds hosted Fredericksburg Tuesday to open district and then play Canyon Lake Thursday.

BHS opened the tourney with a 10-0 run-rule victory over Seguin. The Hounds scored 2 in the first, followed by 4 in the fourth and sixth frames.

Jackson Grimes pitched a gem and tossed a no hitter before the mercy rule kicked in after the sixth. Grimes only walked 3 and he fanned 7.

BHS finished with 8 hits and 10 RBI. Jace Preston hit a double and a single, walked twice and picked up 2 RBI, Walker Hill knocked out 2 singles, Grant Tamplet recorded 2 singles, scored 2 runs and picked up an RBI, Hudson McNew singled and collected 2 RBI, while Ryan Hooper drove in 3 runs.

Up next, the Greyhounds edged Harker Heights, 8-7, and had a big inning in the second when they pushed in 6 runs. BHS was trailing 7-6 going into the bottom of the sixth and scored the two runs needed to win it after Grant Tamplet hit a walk-off single, while Brooks Perez doubled in the inning and scored the winning run on the Tamplet hit, all with two outs.

Boerne finished with 5 hits, including doubles from Perez and Hudson McNew, while Ryan Hooper hit 2 singles and Tamplet singled and picked up the game-winning RBI. Reese House, McNew, Hooper, Walker Hill and Hutson Hendrix all scored once and Perez plated 2 runs, including the game winner.

Thomas Puckett, Eli Srp and Braden Ramirez all tossed in the game with Ramirez picking up the win. Srp struck out 3.

BHS dropped its final two at the tourney and had the chance to see former Greyhound coach Bill Merrell in its next game against Norman, Oklahoma, Friday afternoon. Merrell’s son is the head coach at Norman.

Friday’s game with Norman was tied 4-4 but the Tigers won it with a walkoff double in the bottom of the sixth.

Boerne had one more hit than Norman, 7-6, but came up short, 5-4.

Brooks Perez, Ryan Hooper and Walker Hill all doubled, Reese House hit 2 singles, Hudson McNew singled and Hooper added a single to his double.

House scored twice and McNew and Hooper both scored 1 run, while Hooper and Hill picked up 2 RBI each.

Perez went 3 frames on the hill, gave up 4 hits, 1 earned run, walked 3 and fanned 3.

Braden Ramirez pitched the final 2.1 innings, yielded a 2 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and sat down 2.

Boerne dropped another one-run game, this one to San Marcos. The Hounds tried to rally and scored 3 runs in the sixth but came up short, 7-6.

BHS outhit the Rattlers, 9-8. Hutson Hendrix tripled and scored, Reese House and Jace Preston both hit 2 singles. Dylan Perez and House plated 2 runs each, and Preston drove in 3 runs.

Preston went 2.1 innings and didn’t give up a hit, while Tanner Tuschinski and Campbell Jackson both tossed in the game.
