Have you and your emerging reader made a New Year’s resolution to improve his or her reading skills? Our library can help! Share a book with a trained and certified therapy dog one Saturday a month in the Youth Department.

What a great way for emerging readers to practice their reading skills! Several recent studies indicate the enormous benefits of sharing a book with a dog. Children gain confidence in reading skills, including fluency and oral reading. Moreover, reading to a dog engenders and sustains interest in reading. Children also acquire kindness and empathy toward animals.

Do please come to our PAWS 4 Reading and experience these benefits. We feature the marvelous dog master Miss Marty and her delightful dog, Dwight. We will also introduce jovial master Mary Jo and her perky pup, Buddy.

We are most grateful to these teams for their sharing of their time and furry friends.

The next PAWS 4 Reading is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, at the library.

Frosty’s Fun Storytime Special

Frosty will share a wintery mix of a tale, tunes, craft and tasty treats! We are very grateful for the partnership we share with both the Cibolo Nature Center and Herff Farm.

Frosty will be at the Cibolo Nature Center, 140 City Park Road, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 22. After the storytime, we encour

After the storytime, we encourage families to explore the wonders of the Cibolo Nature Center and

Herff Farm. As noted on its website, visitors to the center can enjoy the amazing natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country. The center features a variety of natural landscapes and more than six miles of trails. Families can connect with nature and experience its many benefits, including the nourishing and healing power of the outdoors.

The center invites you to walk through a native prairie, wade in the creek, look for wildlife in the spring-fed marsh, and feel the awe of the live oak or cypress canopy while immersing yourselves in the wonders of nature.
